CONVENTION COUNTDOWN
In a few short days the gavel will fall and the echoing thud in the Wells Fargo center will open the Democratic Convention in Philadelphia. Should be very interesting - if nothing else.
My official status - at the moment - is in flux. I was selected to be a Bernie Sanders Alternate back in early June. Since then we've had a few Bernie delegates indicate they may not make the trip to the big dance.... that means I am in line for an upgrade...
The upgrade seats are not bigger for delegates - but they are on the "floor" and closer to the action. For all of the "Credentialed" ... drinks and snacks were free anyway... if you go to the right places.
Conventions, along with participating in a process that hints of democracy, are festive and grueling. Voting and roll calls - my one vote really counts there..or so the people who are offering voting suggestions tell me Then there's, listening the parade of pols who look in the mirror every morning seeing the image of someone they are not...yet, giving the most impassioned speeches of their lives hoping it contributes to making the morning mirror image more of a reality...Putting on the show is important.. .as we need to do our part to express ..in words and images..our enthusiasm and commitment for the best candidate in the race.
Then there's the parties.. and events,,,and playing.. That now wears me out the most...Post session end after parties can go to the wee hours and the morning caucus starts at 7:30am I have never mastered the art of practice for 5 days with little sleep.. I just crash when I get home...for 5 days...
All the frivolity and snarky agenda descriptives aside...it's a big event..an important event. Electing our president - no matter how disconnected or distant the electorate may be from the political "realities" of this system - is a big deal and under current rules requires participation at conventions.
I'm honored to be a part of the process...as much as I want it to change and will do my part to push for changes .... One just does not get many chances to be that close to something this big...
I'll savor it all week...at least..every time I shake off my head drooping on its way to a much needed nap...maybe during the speeches...
I'Il be posting what I can all week and adding pictures and images of the big DNC Party party.
Check in regularly
I'll also be posting on FB - let me know if there is something of interest you want to see through my DNC eyes...ill try to accommodate.
